Murphy is kicking off the New Year with a number of new senior appointments.
Paul Bourke has been appointed as head of highways and streetworks, and takes up his role at the end of January. Paul is ideally placed to take on this role due to his broad experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects.
He joined Murphy in 2007 as a site agent on water and wastewater projects, and since then has progressed to become construction manager at Deephams waste water treatment plant in north London.
Mark Singleton joins as group head of planning and project controls from Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK, where he was head of planning for its major infrastructure division.
Based in Kentish Town, Mark will be responsible for leading planning and project controls across the group. Mark brings with him 28 years of experience from major infrastructure contractors including Carillion and Costain, with experience of working on airports, Crossrail, London Underground, commercial residential schemes and smart/managed motorways.
Miles Cobley takes up the role of head of planning and project controls in the north. He joins from Laing O’Rourke where has worked since leaving college. Miles impressed in planning and construction management and worked on a range of high-profile projects including the Leadenhall Building in London and the refurbishment of the Manchester Town Hall complex.
Most recently he was general manager of Glass Reinforced Concrete UK, a Laing O'Rourke manufacturing business supplying to site, which he led to a return in profit in just two years.
Based at Murphy’s Golborne office, Miles will work closely with work winning and project teams to ensure smooth delivery throughout planning stages.
Jonathan Wright come on board as human capital director. Jonathan joins us from Aviva (Friends Life Group) where, as HR director, he transformed Friends Provident, Axa Life UK and BHA into a single, high-performing business: Friends Life. Jonathan led a team of organisational development professionals, with leadership responsibility for talent acquisition, leadership development and succession planning, employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, and corporate responsibility.
Prior to Friends Life, Jonathan held HR leadership roles with Unilever, BHP Billiton in Melbourne and BP, among others.
Shaun Sheldrake joins as operations director for construction, while long-serving Paul Brosnahan will remain as director of Folgate Estates Limited and continue to manage Murphy’s property portfolio.
Shaun will focus on delivering development opportunities for Murphy as well as selected housing, education and regeneration projects with developers, local authorities and housing association clients.
He has worked in the construction industry for nearly 30 years, joining Bovis Construction as a graduate in 1988. Most recently, Shaun was construction and development director at Durkan Limited, where he was responsible for securing and delivering a mix of refurbishment and new build projects for local authority and housing association clients. Shaun is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building.
